Amazing debut album by an anonymous South Korean musician now known as Mid-Air Thief. Gongjoongdoduk is stunning folktronica with incredible production and playing. It’s a very psychedelic record and as influenced as it is by edgier folktronica/prog pop artists like Tavito Nanao, Mid-Air Thief has a strong psychedelic pop/world pop vibe ala Beach Boys, Panda Bear or Hosono. I found the comparison to the neo-psych wall of sound revivalists Elephant 6 collective particularly apt. Mid-Air Thief employs a similar approach to production, with many layers of sound highlighting the natural tone of the analog instruments rather than obscuring them. This record is one of the finest debuts in modern psychedelic music and one of the best electroacoustic records of all time
