Towering Inferno With Bongo Drums? Sign me up on the name alone. This is a new group from blog favorite guitarist Dave Harrington of the legendary DARKSIDE (and many more.) It’s a jazzy jammer that sits between Harrington’s more psychedelic work and his jazz fusion. In the records freest moments it’s got a strong early 70s Miles thing going on. Other tracks are funky yet ambient in that wonderful library music way. There’s serious grooves on this thing and breaks ready made for the dancefloor. Little bits of dub and electronic influences come and go. All the disparate sounds on this thing are deployed tastefully, with the ears of master musicians. Each song is so rich, exciting and ultimately satisfying they could be the apex jams of lesser improvisers sets. And don’t worry- there’s a ton of bongos.
