This is an contemporary jazz/fusion record that simply cannot be missed. Forever Forever is essential. Singer, songwriter, bandleader and LA jazz luminary Genevieve Artadis third album is a passionate and danceable work of hyper modern jazz pop.

The core of the album is classic romantic jazz making full use of newest collaborator Brazilian guitar prodigy Pedro Martins. Her tumultuous romantic relationship with the pianist on this record Chris Fishmans (of Pat Methenys Side Eye 3) provided inspiration to the songwriting and perhaps some good tension to the session. It’s all tied up with a danceable pop twist that has marked her whole discography. In this third record those no-wave and synth-pop influences begin to be joined by her love of anime and the prog-pop scores they tend to employ.

The band is further filled out with some of her many frequent collaborators from the LA jazz scene. Louis Cole, her co-leader in jazz-funk icons KNOWER, is of course on drums. Their close friend and bandmate Chiquita Magic plays synth bass. Those two and Genevieve make up the core of the band and have tended to be the touring ensemble for this and her other solo material.

Forever Forever has so much heart and is still so incredibly modern. The solos and performances in general are both unbelievable and understated. The music scene in which Genevieve and KNOWER exist, and quite frankly reign, definitely has an image of irony and goofiness associated with it. This particular record is very sincere and not as frequently humorous as her previous work. The attitude is much more soft, worldy avant-pop ala Lætitia Sadier and not so freaky and funkadelic.

Genevieve Artadi has become one of the finest pop/jazz singers this century and that’s no exaggeration. Time might even prove it an understatement.
