Another sparkling, hi-fi nu-disco excursion from this Italian duo. I guess that makes Nu Genea italo-disco but they’re a little harder to pin down than that. There’s a lot of funk in line with classic Italian jazz funk/library music. They’ve had a pronounced afro-beat influence going all the way back to their first record. All this comes together to create their own very Mediterranean, very modern, highly danceable take on world pop. In this way People of the Moon is very much in line with their sound so far. However it does have a little more of a full-band feeling than its ultimately pretty housey predecessor. I’m reminded of Theivery Corporations musical journey to a more live sound, and I hope Nu Genea finds a similar level of success. This is another great album and I look forward to their next.
