The debut album by this Japanese group is an all time psychedelic classic that demonstrates considerable range and a deep understanding of the zeitgeist. The entire discography of Omoide Hatoba is absolutely top tier psychedelic freak rock of the highest order, and so you might as well start at the beginning. Fans who don’t know this essential group might still be familiar with the players. The core of the band is guitarist/vocalist Seiichi Yamamoto (better known for his work in the legendary band Boredoms) and bassist/vocalist Atsushi Tsuyama (better know as a longtime and formative member of Acid Mother’s Temple.)

Sonically, Omoide Hatoba is a lot like early Boredoms or the more concise Acid Mothers Temple records, as well the colorful art rock of their contemporaries OOIOO. There’s definitely the characteristic punk elements and long noisey psychedelic jams. They lean towards a comparatively jazzy sound too. Regardless of whatever anyone’s expecting or familiar with going into this record there’s still going to be a least one track that surprises you. These guys don’t just have chops, they have real range and they explore it with a truly keen imporvers ear to craft exceptional songs. This record and group is a classic.
