The fifth record from Portuguese bandleader, composer, and producer Bruno Pernadas is another instant hit. Unlikely, maybe largely remains true to his signature style of modern indi/art pop with elements of jazz fusion and neo-psych. No complaints there. Nobody else nails this sound like Bruno Pernadas.

His newest record does differ from his previous ones (particularly his last record, an amazing double LP from 2021) in two ways. Firstly the world-pop elements are more distinct than on his previous records. For example the dancehall ready dub of “Steady Grace,” the gentle samba of  ‘Já não tem mais encanto” or the psychedelic RnB of “His World.” Secondly, it’s a lot tighter and more pop focused than his other sprawling works that often included lengthier instrumental passages. I think the ability to keep it tight while exploring new styles without losing his very distinct compositional voice is very impressive. And like all Pernadas productions unlikely, maybe is immaculately recorded and mixed. Don’t miss one of 2026s most exciting releases.
