This is an intricate but assertive psych pop album where dreamy vocals and drones are elevated by thunderous rhythms and bold riffs. It’s less chamber or dream pop oriented than its contemporaries, French or otherwise. Rather it demands to be played as loud so that you can really feel the weight of her voice, like an old Gal Costa record. I enjoyed the first Halo Maud record (and her features on the last LP by blog favorites The Chemical Brothers) but this one really stands out. The energy is high and the melodies are strong. I sure would love to see this on tour so head over to Bandcamp and toss her some coins.
