Its been a great few years for American primitive music, particularly if you’re a fan of Fahey worship or drone music. More interesting and more fun than its peers is this is Henry Flynt-esq avant-garde hillbilly music from Baltimore. It’s got American traditional sounds that keep their rootsy nature but are explored and elevated with an evolving classical/improvisational influence. Much like south Indian classical music, it’s not simply roots/progressive fusion so much as it’s a natural extension of raw, living cultural music given greater and greater form to contain more ideas..
