A self produced and self released album by tireless jazz/psych/surf duo Mattson 2. They bring a lot of interesting stuff into the mix here-  influences from South American popular music, new production skills from their close work with Toro Y Moi, the sounds of the LA beat scene and warm west coast jazz. The result is a sublime record that’s easy going but in no way short on substance.

I saw them live around this era, and enjoyed it immensely. The playing was thoughtful and moody with consistently impeccable style. Both on record and live there is a delicacy in their playing that’s actually supported rather than subverted by the thick haze of psychedelia and effects. I hope the records continue to be more and more memorable, and I recommend seeing their truly sweet set regardless.
