Rudiments is Shanghai based producer and multi instructor Goooooses first solo LP since 2019s Rusted Silicone, and in my opinion he’s gotten much better. I like all his work but this is now my favorite. It’s essentially a great solo percussion album made of really rich and saturated electronics/etc.

Rudiments is abstract and melodic together in a way that’s like both 60s avant jazz and deconstructed club. There’s definitely dancefloor heat, as well as moments of near orchestral grandeur. I found those hit especially hard after the detailed and fairly relaxed electronic/acoustic “jazz” had fully captured my attention (and had me turn the volume up.)

I wouldn’t say this is jazzy IDM or vice versa but fans of either genre, as well as any open minded electronic music enjoyers should check this out.
