Norwegian Canterbury music? You’re god damned right. Unlike some people who firmly believe that country of origin determines the “legitimacy” of a music’s content (You ever ask a boomer krautrock fan if krautrock made outside of Germany is actual krautrock? Go ahead and do it, it’s a hoot), we firmly believe that in these and many other cases, the work speaks for itself. Who cares if a band wasn’t sitting ass to ass with Hillage as he was making Gong records at the same time? It’s 2023, bands can do whatever they want.
Case in point, Soft Ffog. How do we say that? Soft Fog? Soft F-fog? Either way, a fuzzy time is implied, perhaps it makes you think of Soft Machine? This is definitely the direction of sound you should be thinking, along with some ELP and Mahavishnu Orchestra. This is a tonally laid back, but yet very jammy trippy jazzy groove ride through the many colorful textures that the genre provides, with very atmospheric segments and wild twists and turns to keep you interested throughout. These guys are on fire, constantly trading between dynamics and sound presence, complementing each other sonically perfectly as the grooves go on. Some great synth work here!
Definitely check it out if you like any of the stuff mentioned here, this is a fiery record!
