“Veteran underground experimentalists Morgan Garrett and Zack Kouns have teamed up to form Scream Culture and deliver this one-of-a-kind album of outsider Americana, back woods electronics, and heartfelt noise ballads. This is no piss take, this is sincere music from the heart and from the heartland, an honest expression of scream culture.”

What the fuck is this shit? I’m not entirely sure, but I really dig it. Feels like our friends here on the cover just locked themselves in their garage late one summer night and just did a lot of substances while they drank and recorded themselves earnestly fucking around. The result is a bizarro and utterly hilarious album that shouldn’t work, but ends up being endlessly amusing and actually good.

Through the use of vocoders, distorted electronics, and some guitar looping nonsense, we have a very claustrophobic noisy record that offers a peek into the mind of rural boredom and madness within the void. What the fuck else is there to do out there but go mad and make ridiculous tunes like this? Not to mention, y’know, the Ohio River was once literally so polluted that it burst into flames, so everyone there definitely is feeling alright and in their right minds and is definitely absolutely totally healthy and sane and doing just fine and is in no way still dealing with ongoing considerations thereof, right?

Everything is blown out and ridiculous here, but will make you laugh and smile and be charmed by it. But boy oh boy does it feel like one bender too many that will just not let you sleep or find any peace.

Perfect.
