Essential drummer (and clarinetist, wizard, etc) Chris Corsano came up in conversation the other day and I remembered how amazing this supergroup Rangda was (is? Give us another!) This supergroup features Chris along with twin guitars from Ben Chasny (Six Organs of Admittance) and Sir Richard Bishop (Sun City Girls.) Their debut album False Flag is some truly prodigious and more than a little unhinged rock from three of the greatest and most technical improvisers out there. They really balance the noisy free avant-rock that you might expect with some seriously heavy riffage, clean psychedelic soloing, and meditative interplay. It’s still definitely not a record for the faint of heart or tinnitus-prone but False Flag might surprise you with its tenderness.
