Low Air is a long awaited record, at least for me. Jeremy is best known as the longtime live drummer for Animal Collective and Dan Deacon. He’s also a member of two different art rock groups that were formative to me, Ponytail and Slasher Flicks. I was turned onto his solo work after a life changing Filistine/Clark/Dan Deacon triple bill in 2015 when Jeremy and Dan were very kind and talked to me after the show. Since then I’ve kept up with his occasional releases. Those have been great but Low Air is the record I’ve been waiting for.

This is very spacious and airy electronic music, featuring live drums and percussion of course but a lot of really delicate synth. The vibe ranges from gallery-esq sound art to classic electronic new-age and more dancefloor oriented microhouse, occasionally touching each of those moods in one song. If you told me this was the newest record put out on Erased Tapes from some European pianist-turned-laptopist I would absolutely believe you. It’s hard to imagine Jeremy as anything other than a sweaty, blurry explosion of psychedelic drum madness. Still the sublime quality of Low Air is immediate and inarguable. It’s incredible for a deep listening sesh but could just as easily be a deadly weapon in a DJs bag. Don’t miss it.
