I’ve loved everything by this LA (via Florida via France ) group. They make breezy, particularly jazzy post-stereolab pop and I don’t think there’s a bad song in their oeuvre. It’s too early for me to say if Monkey Mind is my favorite or their finest, but I instantly understand why even longtime fans are so excited by this one. The lyrics have gotten a little more refined every release and the vocals are now higher in the mix and maybe even recorded a smidge better. It’s a little more song-forward and not as textural. This record veers slightly away from the almost chiptuney, disco pop sounds and into a warmer place reminiscent of a classic MPB  record. It just feels more confident and concise and more likely to be a hit with a wider audience and I hope they continue to find a wider audience, because they’re one of the most underrated bands working today.
