This highly anticipated official debut by Tapers Choice more than delivers on the band’s premise as a critical torchbearer for the jam band sound. In fact this group might redeem the premise of “jam band” for many listeners. They truly deliver as the highest tier of improvisational progressive rock/fusion band while absolutely retaining the sound and spirit of classic American blues/psych rock ala The Grateful Dead. It’s fun, it’s catchy, it’s full to the brim with mind boggling consciousness expanding jams.

This first official effort is created from studio sessions, live jams and stripped back demos and functions not just as a great introduction to the group but a great introduction to jam band music in general. Or a re-introduction, for any old head who feels burnt out on the current crop of under-seasoned over-played psych bands.

They’re all four great players that listeners might know from their more popular projects, but Tapers Choice is foremost the vehicle for jazz/jam/electronic guitarist Dave Harrington (of DARKSIDE) to really cut loose. It’s a record that’s fun and full of life without being corny or kitsch, which is a skill that a lot of modern improvisational rock has forgotten. This is one to bring the old heads and the new kids together. Don’t miss it.
