Rhythm is an amazing solo debut from one of the anonymous masked musicians behind swedish psychedelic fusion group Goat. Their subversive take on the Western idea of “World Music” has never been more refined than on this record. The elements of garage rock and freakout psych are here but the sounds of North African, Atlantic Islander and diasporic soul/dance music come through stronger and are more cohesively fused into a new sound.

This record is extremely enjoyable and my favorite Goat side project yet. In fact I almost enjoy it more than any one Goat record. Fans of African blues, Western psych, afrobeat, Fula music and dub will all enjoy this record. It’s all those genres and none of them. I don’t pretend to know anything about the mind of the mysterious Goatman but I can hear that what he (?) set out to do with this record was completely accomplished. It fits perfectly in the thread of Goats discography and also the North African fusion scene as it is in 2025. Give it a listen.
