A beautiful and thoughtful double LP of solo guitar by the NY based writer and musician Alan Licht. This record is lovely and will be appreciated equally by fans of popular rock music or folks into the east coast improvised music scene. The playing, looping and phrasing are immediately ear catching but there’s a lot going on compositionally that rewards repeated listens.

I wasn’t familiar with his work before seeing the last show of the West Coast tour behind this record and the show was as wonderful as the album. Maybe more so- when experienced live, the drones and tones created really swelled and filled the body as expertly as the finest laptop drone artists. It’s a simple but singular sound, though the way it draws from both popular and experimental music reminded me of the playing of Steve Gunn or Ira Kaplan (Yo La Tengo.)  In a year of exceptional solo guitar music, don’t miss this wonderful record.
