This 23 track record took a decade to cook and was recorded and played live across ten countries, so I’ll keep it’s archive entry brief because you’ve got some long listening to do.

Congotronics International is an absurd supergroup composed of nearly twenty musicians assembled for the “Congotronics vs Rockers Tour” in 2011. The premise is two of the finest and most influential Congolese bands of all time, Kokono No. 1 and Kasai Allstars, are met by open eared rock/folk/electronic acts. Specifically art rock legends Deerhoof, south American folktronica artist Juana Molina, Matt Mehlan (formerly of Skeletons,) and the Swedish duo Wildbirds and Peacedrums.

They recorded this on stage and in the studio during that 2011 tour and across the world in the decade since. It’s been mixed like magic by the experienced hands of Deerhoof Greg and John into a wonderful and seamless work of borderless (but distinctly Congolese) art rock record. It fits beautifully in the discogs of any of the artists involved and the indi music landscapes of both the 2010s and the 2020s. It’s a hefty album but tons of fun and very very interesting as well.
