An immensely talented improvisational keyboardist and drummer, I first came across Takedas work through seeing footage of her playing with Keiji Haino, Yoshida Tatsuya, and Richard Pinhas. She has several full improv sessions with Tatsuya available on his bandcamp, and a host of playing credits including blog favorite psych jazz ensemble TCS.
Although Risa Takedas is a truly intense player, I would say this album is fairly accessible and pop/pop rock influenced, despite being deeply experimental. She’s certainly not afraid of melody but also not afraid of dissonance and destruction. It’s got a glitchy and at times alien sounding production but remains a lively and personable record.
