The self described “non-jazz” trio (a great bit that reminds me of Nels Clines “Jazz Free”) works through nearly every kind of improvised music in just 10 tracks.

Parasite Jazz stops just short of giving you whiplash as their psychedelic wanderings pass through dub, both kinds of classic kraut, new age, space rock, chamber psych, medieval European, and several flavors of jazz.

Psychedelics, improvisation and a deft hand at the mixer are the strong genetics that tie it all together. There’s samples as well as live and studio moments blended in a way that requires (and fully leverages) these experienced producers and players.

I hadn’t heard of any of these folks before and I’m excited to check out the lineage that led to this excellent ensemble. Parasite Jazz- its the band, the album, and the vibe. Check it out.
