Batida is a kind of old school sample heavy edm from west Africa thats been popularized by some recent interpretations and reinventions from Portuguese record label Principe. The first studio LP from the label this 2023 is by DJ Danifox, and I find their almost half-time style to be my favorite thus far. The slower instrumentation focused jams remind me of the best instrumental hip hop records and like those works, it could be played by a jazz trio just as easily as a DJ.
