Mountain Brews is very humble but one-of-a-kind album/project. Perpetual Doom is a record label that truly doesn’t miss, and among their many contributions to the cosmic country canon I find this album unique. It’s a beautiful LP collecting the four self released EPs by this psychedelic soft rock band. Yes, you read that right.

Mountain Brews are just some friends who have played a lot of Grateful Dead covers together, writing original tunes that are so easy going that they border on comedy music. It’s a vision of The Eagles as a psychedelic San Francisco blues band at the beginning of the 70s. Mountain Brews is simultaneously a loving tribute and send up of soft/yacht rock, filtered through a jam band that’s refreshingly patient and low pressure. Topics covered include golf, Margaritas, vibes, brotherhood, and the ups and downs of life as a heady dude. The jams are tight and tasty throughout. It’s not particularly cohesive an album, as it’s kind of a retrospective compilation. However I think this kind of music is best as singles and the records kinda mix-tape vibe works perfectly.

Fans of cracking open cold ones with the boys, fresh air, slow car rides, dive bars and moustaches will love this record. Don’t miss it.
