Light-Space Modulator is a new duo of psychedelic producer/DJ/legend Shackleton and singer/instrumentalist Marlene Ribeiro of GNOD, whose ’23 debut was probably my favorite release of that year.

The instrumentation is delicate and balanced perfectly to Marlene’s intensely layered voice. It’s rhythmically intricate with a strong ritualistic feeling that typifies Shackletons works. The songwriting is super tight without dull or jarring moments. It flows nicely between more ambient passages, engaging instrumental rhythms, and catchy electronic/vocal parts recalling premium trip hop and vocal dub. I hope there’s more music to come from this project. It’s a thoughtful and spiritual album that any psych fan should hear.
