Today, we have another installment of Softer Shades of Psychedelia!

I’m going with an absolute classic today. A heavyweight. A totally immersive experience.

If you’re not familiar with The Disintegration Loops, or indeed, William Basinski himself, you owe it to yourself to listen to this masterpiece and then dive into the discography of one of the most compelling and dynamic ambient composers of all time.

The Disintegration Loops provides a hypnotic experience as one tumbles into an endlessly repeating tape loop that disintegrates moment by moment, so gradually that you don’t even notice it at first. Before too long, the music that’s decaying becomes just as interesting (perhaps more interesting?) than the parts of the tape yet to be dissolved.

I really cannot say enough good things about this album. It has provided me a calm in the storm during many of my life’s worst moments, and I continue to lean on it for meditation and comfort.
